Privacy policy

TrueVisit Insurance Inc. collects personal information in order to arrange insurance, and some of it — dates of birth, medical history — is sensitive. This page sets out what we collect, why, who we pass it to, and what you can ask us to do about it. Last updated 24 August 2026.
What We Collect

The information we hold

We collect only what we need to give you a quote and, if you buy, to place and service the policy.

Information you give us

When you use a quote form, contact us, or apply for cover, that typically includes your name, date of birth, contact details, travel or coverage dates, and information about your health and medical history. For a policy application it may also include payment details, passport spelling and beneficiary details.

Health information is sensitive. We ask for it because insurers cannot underwrite without it, and because an application that omits it can be voided later. We do not ask for more than the insurer requires.

Information collected automatically

Like most websites, ours records basic technical information when you visit — IP address, browser type, pages viewed — through server logs and any analytics we use. This is used to keep the site working and to understand which pages are useful. It is not used to identify you personally.

Cookies

The site uses cookies that are necessary for it to function, and may use analytics cookies to measure traffic. You can refuse or delete cookies in your browser settings, though some parts of the site may not work properly without the necessary ones.

Why We Have It

What we use it for

We use personal information to:

  • prepare quotes and show you the plans available to you;
  • submit applications to insurers and administer policies we place;
  • handle changes, renewals, cancellations, refunds and claims;
  • answer enquiries and provide the advice you have asked for;
  • meet our legal, regulatory and record-keeping obligations as a licensed insurance agency; and
  • detect and prevent fraud.

We do not sell personal information, and we do not pass your details to other agencies or brokers to market to you.

Consent

By giving us your information and asking us to arrange cover, you consent to us using it for the purposes above. Where information is sensitive — health information in particular — we rely on your express consent, given when you complete an application.

You may withdraw consent at any time, subject to legal and contractual restrictions and reasonable notice. Withdrawing consent may mean we can no longer arrange or service cover for you, and we will tell you if that is the case.

Who Sees It

Disclosure to others

Arranging insurance necessarily involves sharing your information. We disclose it to:

  • Insurers and their underwriters, so an application can be assessed and a policy issued;
  • Claims administrators and assistance providers, where a claim or a medical emergency arises;
  • Service providers who help us operate — for example technology and hosting suppliers — who are bound to protect it and may use it only for the services they provide to us; and
  • Regulators, law enforcement or courts, where we are required or permitted by law to do so.

Some of these parties may store or process information outside your province, or outside Canada, in which case it may be accessible to the courts and authorities of that jurisdiction. We take reasonable steps to ensure comparable protection applies wherever it is held.

How We Protect It

Safeguards and retention

Security

We use administrative, technical and physical safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of the information — access controls, secure transmission for data submitted through this website, and limiting access to staff who need it to do their job. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

How long we keep it

We keep personal information only as long as necessary for the purposes it was collected for, and for as long as we are required to by law and by the record-keeping rules that apply to licensed insurance agencies. Retention periods differ depending on the type of record and whether a policy was issued or a claim made. When information is no longer needed it is securely destroyed or anonymised.

Your Rights

Access, correction and complaints

Seeing what we hold

You may ask what personal information we hold about you, what we have used it for, and to whom it has been disclosed. We will respond within the time the law allows. There are limited circumstances in which we cannot provide access — for example where doing so would reveal information about another person — and we will explain if that applies.

Correcting it

If something we hold is inaccurate or incomplete, tell us and we will correct it. Accuracy matters more here than on most websites: a date of birth or a name spelled differently from the passport can invalidate a policy or delay a claim.

Complaints

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your personal information, contact our Privacy Officer first, using the details below. We will investigate and respond.

If you are not satisfied with our response, you may contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, which oversees compliance with federal private-sector privacy law.
