We collect only what we need to give you a quote and, if you buy, to place and service the policy.
When you use a quote form, contact us, or apply for cover, that typically includes your name, date of birth, contact details, travel or coverage dates, and information about your health and medical history. For a policy application it may also include payment details, passport spelling and beneficiary details.
Health information is sensitive. We ask for it because insurers cannot underwrite without it, and because an application that omits it can be voided later. We do not ask for more than the insurer requires.
Like most websites, ours records basic technical information when you visit — IP address, browser type, pages viewed — through server logs and any analytics we use. This is used to keep the site working and to understand which pages are useful. It is not used to identify you personally.
The site uses cookies that are necessary for it to function, and may use analytics cookies to measure traffic. You can refuse or delete cookies in your browser settings, though some parts of the site may not work properly without the necessary ones.
We use personal information to:
We do not sell personal information, and we do not pass your details to other agencies or brokers to market to you.
By giving us your information and asking us to arrange cover, you consent to us using it for the purposes above. Where information is sensitive — health information in particular — we rely on your express consent, given when you complete an application.
You may withdraw consent at any time, subject to legal and contractual restrictions and reasonable notice. Withdrawing consent may mean we can no longer arrange or service cover for you, and we will tell you if that is the case.
Arranging insurance necessarily involves sharing your information. We disclose it to:
Some of these parties may store or process information outside your province, or outside Canada, in which case it may be accessible to the courts and authorities of that jurisdiction. We take reasonable steps to ensure comparable protection applies wherever it is held.
We use administrative, technical and physical safeguards appropriate to the sensitivity of the information — access controls, secure transmission for data submitted through this website, and limiting access to staff who need it to do their job. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
We keep personal information only as long as necessary for the purposes it was collected for, and for as long as we are required to by law and by the record-keeping rules that apply to licensed insurance agencies. Retention periods differ depending on the type of record and whether a policy was issued or a claim made. When information is no longer needed it is securely destroyed or anonymised.
You may ask what personal information we hold about you, what we have used it for, and to whom it has been disclosed. We will respond within the time the law allows. There are limited circumstances in which we cannot provide access — for example where doing so would reveal information about another person — and we will explain if that applies.
If something we hold is inaccurate or incomplete, tell us and we will correct it. Accuracy matters more here than on most websites: a date of birth or a name spelled differently from the passport can invalidate a policy or delay a claim.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your personal information, contact our Privacy Officer first, using the details below. We will investigate and respond.
If you are not satisfied with our response, you may contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, which oversees compliance with federal private-sector privacy law.
